City of Industry, CA (May 22, 2007) -- We have read recent reports alleging that another pet food brand's dry dog food has tested positive for melamine. According to media reports, the brand in question is Nutra Nuggets, made by Diamond Pet Foods for Costco.
Nutra Nuggets is not made or produced by, nor affiliated with either Nutro Products or Nutro's Natural Choice®, MAX® or Ultra™ brands. Nutro's premium pet foods are available only through pet stores and feed stores.
Pet owners should know that all of Nutro Products dry pet foods are safe. None of Nutro's dry pet food products have been recalled or are part of any recall.
We want all of our consumers to be aware that:
- All of Nutro's products are being tested by independent labs which confirm that no melamine is detected in Nutro's pet foods.
- We have incorporated into our standard quality assurance procedures testing for melamine, by independent laboratories, of both specific raw materials and all finished products.
- After confirming the quality and safety of the products, representative samples of our pet foods go through a feeding process supervised by veterinarians and nutritionists. In this process, the food is fed to dogs or cats as a final check to ensure the correct palatability, digestibility, and stool quality.
Pet owners can feel confident in our products, and contact us directly with questions. Nutro customers may check Nutro's web site (www.nutroproducts.com) or contact our consumer hotline -- (800) 833-5330 -- for further information about our products.
