We are extremely disturbed that something in the Menu Foods’ supply chain went terribly wrong. At Nutro Products, we care deeply about our customers’ pets and it is simply unacceptable that this has happened.
As President and CEO of Nutro Products, I ordered the recall of specific products manufactured for Nutro by Menu Foods. I went further and expanded the recall beyond what was initially suggested by Menu Foods to further protect our customers’ pets.
We have just been made aware that Menu Foods has expanded their recall and we ask all Nutro customers that have any wet “cuts & gravy style” pet food product, regardless of the “best by date”, to no longer feed these products to their pets and to return them for a full refund. This action is being taken to avoid customers’ confusion in reading specific “best by dates” on individual cans and pouches.
I want to make it very clear that Nutro’s dry foods, biscuits and treats—over 90% of the pet food we sell—are NOT manufactured by Menu Foods and are NOT involved in this recall.
Nutro is preparing to implement additional guidelines that will ensure that the quality control
measures used by our co-manufacturers and their suppliers are strengthened so that this deeply troubling situation never happens again.
Please know that I take this situation extremely seriously. Our customers’ trust in Nutro and our products—spanning 75 years--is of paramount importance to us.
As Nutro has always done, we will treat our customers fairly and with compassion. Our
customers who have suffered through an illness or death of their pet and feel a Nutro product in any way contributed to that illness or death, should contact our Consumer Services Department at 800-833-5330 and provide the information requested.
