Maggie

Dear Nutro,

A while back we spoke concerning my Lab-Sharpe female dog. Her name is Maggie and beginning somewhere between 8 or 9 months old she had severe skin problems. She chewed on her self continuously, had progressive hair loss, (lost almost half of her hair) smelled bad and looked pathetic, despite all or our efforts in seeing different veterinarians and following back breaking guidelines in bathing her with expensive shampoos every three days and giving her expensive medicine. I did hold out on giving her prednisone, which was prescribed on the first visit! I read books and tried to figure out what her allergies were. One thing I read mentioned Sharpe's and soy allergies. I was new at all this and began searching for better foods. A pet shop suggested Nutro-Large Breed, which she had for several months with no improvement. Another clue came from a mother of an autistic child who was allergic to soy products. His allergy specialist told he mother to be careful about giving him vitamin E since most came from soy. I had been giving Maggie vitamin E and putting this together with what I'd read I was determined to get her off all soy. The revelation came after another wonderful product was located on the Internet-Eqyss. The have a product for skin problems called MicroTec. It was gentle and effective. It calmed her skin down enough and the spray stopped her constant itching so I could discover her whole problem would start with one hive and that would appear a little while after she ate. These hives had always been there, but without controlling the itching and chewing the whole area would turn into what looked like a hot spot, but we'd never see the start until the itching was stopped.

So I couldn't have figured it out without Eqyss-MicroTec which I found at a feed store, since it's used for horses as well as pets. And with seeing the hives after eating I was convinced it was a food allergy-Soy being the big suspicion. The told me at Pet Supermarket that Nutro-Lamb and rice was soy free so we started with that and she immediately stopped all the itching. It was about 7 months from the beginning of her problems until we figured it out. It was like looking for a missing puzzle piece. It drove me crazy, and vets were no help. One was supportive and kept her off steroids, which I am thankful for. Come to find out, vets don't know much about skin problems. All this began about 3 years ago. Maggie went from looking pathetic to being healthy and beautiful.

My advice is start correcting by changing diet first. It's the least expensive way and it worked for Maggie. I tell everyone and many try what I did, one after having itching for 8 years! Now the dog is fine itch-free. Now she tells others. One suggestion — labeling it "Soy free" would help. I think I would have chosen the Lamb and Rice much sooner if I had known.

Thank you so much for a product that's really saved Maggie. We've gotten 2 dogs since and of course they eat the same food. I feed my cats Nutro as well. Prevention of health problems starts with quality food. I've learned a lot and I know others are trying to figure out similar problems. Thank you so much for the help your products have been.

- Linda
